CLUB NEWS

Our teams have been performing exceptionally well in the Leinster Chess Leagues this season, with all three teams demonstrating remarkable skill and determination.

Heidenfeld Team

The Heidenfeld team has been the standout performers, winning all five matches so far. Heading into the Christmas break, they have amassed an impressive 27.5 points. Although some fifth-round matches are yet to be played, it is clear that our team will comfortably top the table, likely leading by 3 or 4 points.

This incredible achievement is even more remarkable given that the team has been without Diana Mats for all five games. Every player has contributed to the team’s success, with Kyrylo shining brightly, securing five straight wins, and John Joyce stepping up admirably on Board 1 in Diana’s absence.

Ennis Shield Team

Our Ennis Shield team has also put in a solid performance, currently sitting comfortably in the mid-table after four matches. The team has won two games and narrowly lost the other two by the smallest possible margins.

Zaanaa has been a standout player, remaining unbeaten with 3 points from four games, but all team members have made significant contributions. While the team is 3.5 points behind the second-placed team, closing that gap is challenging but not impossible. The team is committed to giving their all in the remaining matches.

Bodley Team

The Bodley team has been nothing short of a revelation. They currently lead the table with 11 points from three matches. Although the second-placed team, with 8 points, has a match in hand, it’s clear that we will at least be in second place going into the Christmas break.

This success is a team effort, with Joe Hackett and Oisin Deignan on the top two boards scoring 100%. The team’s excellent position makes them strong contenders for promotion—a just reward for their hard work and dedication.

A Season to Remember

It is remarkable that our three teams have collectively won 10 out of 12 matches, with the other two losses being by the narrowest of margins. This is a stark contrast to last year when all three teams faced relegation.

This turnaround highlights the importance of the new players we recruited during the summer and reflects the strong team spirit that currently defines our club.

Congratulations to all players and teams for an outstanding first half of the season. Let’s keep up the great work in the matches ahead!
