Tournament for Bodley and Players Rated Under 1700

This new tournament was a great success and attracted considerable interest. Twelve players took part in a very keenly contested event.

Final Standings

  1. David McIver – 5½ / 6
    • Finished strongly with wins in his last two rounds against very tough opposition.
    • Was undefeated after an opening–round draw.
  2. Seb Hall – 5 / 6
  3. Das Tanmoy – 4 / 6
  4. 4–5. Joe Hackett & Chris Ducker – shared fourth/fifth place

The tournament was superbly organised and controlled by Liam Farrell.

“We’ll definitely repeat this event next year. It was very enthusiastically received and gave many of our new members valuable experience in competitive chess—they took to it like ducks to water!”

Elias Faustino Lawlor Selected for Ireland’s Glorney Cup Team

The club is delighted and honoured that Elias Faustino Lawlor has been chosen for Ireland’s prestigious Glorney Cup squad. Places on the national team are reserved for the very best young players; Elias is only the fifth member in our club’s history to earn this distinction.

Lorenzo Bianchi Presentation

Lorenzo delivered a well-attended, thought-provoking session centered on one of his own games—an unusual choice in that he analysed where he went wrong. His dissection of the opening’s positional objectives and the ensuing middlegame sparked a lively, informative discussion. Most agreed that Lorenzo’s play was exemplary until acute time pressure led to the decisive mistake.

“A most enjoyable and instructive evening,” said many attendees.

50ᵗʰ Anniversary “Champion of Champions” Tournament

To mark our golden jubilee, the committee has organised a special eight-player, all-play-all event on a weekend in October. So far the following former Irish champions have accepted:

  • GM Alex Balburin
  • David Fitzsimmons (current Irish champion)
  • Tom O’Gorman
  • Mark Heidenfeld
  • Sam Collins
  • Colm Daly

This stellar lineup promises one of the strongest tournaments in recent Irish chess history. We hope to fill the remaining two spots very soon.
