GREAT START FOR TEAMS IN LEINSTER LEAGUES

Our teams have had a great start in the Leinster leagues.

The Heidenfeld, Ennis and Bodley teams have now played a total of 6 matches and have won all of them. It’s a very long time since this has happened!

The Heidenfeld team lead their division with 15.5points from 3 matches. In the first round they beat Blanchardstown 5.5 to 2.5 and repeated that score last Wednesday against Elm Mount. In between they had a hard earned win away to Balbriggan by 4.5 to 3.5.

The match against Elm Mount was remarkable. We were 2.5 to 0.5 down after the first three results. We then had a tremendous fight back and won all five remaining games! None of these wins was easy but we ground them out and now look forward with great confidence to the future.

Our Ennis team has also started in fine style. We beat Lucan 3.5 to 2.5 in the first round and followed that up with an away win against Portmarnock by 4 points to 2. That latter match was a difficult prospect as we were missing some strong players and it was a long and not so easy night journey to Portmarnock. But we overcame these obstacles and now lie fourth in the league, just 1.5 points behind the leaders.

Our Bodley team came very fast out of the traps and had an excellent win against the Master Chess Club by 4-1. As a result, we are joint leaders with Gorey who have a very strong team. Early days yet but our Bodley squad are well motivated and are very likely to be strong contenders in their division.

One remarkable fact has been the performance of the new players we recruited to the club during the summer. We have a total of 7 new players in our teams, 3 in the Heidenfeld and 2 each in the Ennis and Bodley. Of the 13 games in total plated by these new entrants, 9 have been won, 3 drawn, and only 1 lost. Three of our newcomers have won all of their games to date. They are certainly setting high standards for our existing members!
