Playing hall set with chess boards and clocks before a tournament

The 2026–27 Leinster league season started on 18 September, and all four of our teams have now played their first match. One win and three defeats is not the start we wanted, but the win came from the Heidenfeld team, who were relegated from Division 1 last season.

Division Match Result
Div 2 Heidenfeld UCD v Dún Laoghaire Won 5–3
Div 3 Ennis Dún Laoghaire v Lucan Lost 2–5
Div 4 O’Hanlon South Dún Laoghaire v Knights of Éanna Lost 2–4
Div 5 BEA South Dún Laoghaire v Chess Kings Lost 2–3

Heidenfeld: UCD 3–5 Dún Laoghaire

Back in Division 2, the Heidenfeld team began with an away win at UCD. Suleiman Almousa, Sergey Beryozkin and Liam O’Daly won their games. Kirill Kholyavko, Anthony Fox, Lorenzo Bianchi and David MacIver all drew. We lost only one game in the match.

Ennis: Dún Laoghaire 2–5 Lucan

Lucan brought a strong side, with Muhtarim-Ul and Mustakim-Ul Haque, both rated over 2000, on the top two boards. Peter Jackson beat Paul Duff, who is rated almost 90 points above him, and Martin Lohan won on board 6.

O’Hanlon: Dún Laoghaire 2–4 Knights of Éanna

Brian O’Gorman and Liam Farrell won on boards 3 and 4. The other four games went to Knights of Éanna.

BEA: Dún Laoghaire 2–3 Chess Kings

This one was close. Chess Kings had Dariy Kelbas, rated 2049, on top board, and we lost the top three games. Yash Burman and Richard Daly won on boards 4 and 5, which left us one game short.
