Leinster Chess Leagues

How long is a Leinster league chess game?

It depends on the division. In the Armstrong, Heidenfeld and Ennis, each player has 90 minutes plus 30 seconds a move from move 1. In the O'Hanlon and BEA it is 75 minutes plus 30 seconds, and in the Bodley 60 minutes plus 30 seconds.

With the increment, a game in the top three divisions can run to three hours or more if both players use their time. That is why league matches start early in the evening or in the afternoon.

Where a venue has a set closing time, the rules allow a fixed time limit instead: two hours each for all moves in the top three divisions, 105 minutes in the O'Hanlon and BEA, and 90 minutes in the other divisions.

Our home matches start at 19:15 or 19:30 on Wednesday evenings, or 14:30 on Saturday afternoons.
