Can beginners join a chess club?
Yes. You do not need to be good at chess to join a club. At Dún Laoghaire Chess Club you will find people of similar strength, and members are happy to coach you and help you develop your game.
Playing stronger players is the quickest way to improve, and a club is where you find them. From time to time members go through a game together, and there are occasional talks. Members can also borrow books from the club's chess library.
There is no test to pass and no rating needed. There is normally someone at the club to welcome you and find you a game. If you contact us before your first visit, we will arrange for someone to meet you.
Your first night is free, and sets and clocks are provided. We meet every Wednesday, 19:30–22:30, at the Eblana Club in Dún Laoghaire.
