How much does it cost to join a chess club?
At Dún Laoghaire Chess Club, ordinary membership is €120 a year and junior membership (under 18) is €60 a year. Your first night is free, so you can try the club before you pay anything.
€120 a year works out at about €2.30 a week, and the junior rate at about €1.15 a week.
Membership covers every Wednesday club night, 19:30–22:30, at the Eblana Club in Dún Laoghaire. Sets and clocks are provided, so there is nothing to buy. Members can play in the club's blitz and rapid tournaments and the club championship, borrow from the club's chess library, and put their name forward for one of our four Leinster league teams.
If you want to play league chess, the Leinster Chess Union also requires every player to be registered with the Irish Chess Union. That registration is separate from club membership.
